The baseball field needs some major work. The turf is fine, but the stands and concessions and the around behind the field are the worst in the district. We need to get rid of the current press box and concessions and put grand stand seating behind home plate. THey can put a new concession stand behind it. We need a new entryway like they put in the stadium with a real ticket booth. Just look at the other schools in our district and compare what they have to what we have. Pine Tree has a new baseball park coming. Mt pleasant has a new one and so does Lufkin. Texarkana isn't new but it's way better than ours. We don't need a new park. We just need to invest in it to make it better. Then you have our tennis area that is the worst in our district which might be why we have the worst tennis team in the district. the courts need to be redone. The fence is falling apart and the bleachers are rusted and rotten. It should be embarrassing. Football stadium has come a long way but the concrete is dirty and crumbling. The bleachers are rusted and coming apart. The concessions area is bad and the restrooms got renovated but they are still bad. We need new seating. The concessions area need to be demolished and replaced. My biggest pet peeve is our lack of a swim team and a indoor pool for a swim team. As a parent with kids that are interested in swimming I'm going to be forced to decide to keep my kids in Marshall or move them to Hallsville or Longview so they can swim competitively in high school. We use to have a swim team that was competitive. There is a large group of students in Marshall that want to swim but can't because our city and misd won't invest in it. It's terrible that a school and a district the size of Marshall let their team go. Every school in our district has a team. Even Sulphur Springs and jacksonville has swim teams. Gilmer!!! After watching my nieces go 0-100 in soccer at mhs it's disheartening to see some sports get money and attention and other get passed and overlooked. Hopefully we will have a swim team soon so we can remain mavericks. But how can we support a school that won't support us?

No one is saying all the work is done.
I think there are still plans for Maverick Stadium in the works. Just be patient.
As far as Maverick Field.... I'll agree that I think a new grandstand/concessions would be great. After seeing Lufkin and MP's set up...we def have some work to do. Longview and Pine Tree are both about to get huge upgrades....so yeah, hopefully there's some more work to do.
I'll agree with you about the Tennis complex too. It's in need of some attention.
Hopefully something can be done about the swimming pool and the swim team question. It's come up several times over the years. But building a facility would be HUGE for MISD. Probably in the 10M range. I'm not sure that's in the cards. It has been suggested about them taking over the pool at the Boys and Girls club. Closing it in and getting it heated. Not even sure that's a possibility. Using the old life center pool might be an option too. It's already there, indoors, and has been heated. Might be the cheapest option. But to be honest.... that's going to be an expensive prospect for MISD. But I'm in full support of them making it happen.

I like the idea of the baseball field having seats behind home plate. Not sure what they would do with the press box and the concessions. But something could be worked out.
Swim team? We had one? Where did they practice? Do we need a pool? Sounds like an expensive sport to get into.

If I've learned anything about this current school board.......
1. If the students need something..... they make it happen.
2. MISD does things right.
If you had told me 10 years ago that EVERY STUDENT IN MISD would be in a new or completely renovated school I wouldn't have believed you.
I definitely wouldn't have believed a covered practice facility or a practice gym or a renovated stadium (which still isn't finished)

I think a pool would be a great service.
The swim team could use it. The Boys and girls club could use it (same as Lufkin and Nac).
Swim lessons.
Maybe a joint venture between MISD, B&G Club, and the City of Marshall.
Maybe even ETBU would be interested.

We can't spend that kind of money for just a handful of students. An indoor pool would be well over$10,000,000. There's so many other things the sports department needs more than a pool.

I agree with Mavschamp. The best way for this to get done would be with the district, the city, and maybe etbu going in together to make it happen. MHS and etbu could form swim teams, the city could use it, boys and girls club. Spread out the cost to many organizations to make it easier to maintain.
