I don't want you to think that I'm a Longview hater, because I'm not. In fact I want you to win every game that you play, except when you play Marshall. It's good to hear that Longview has some great talent coming up. With the talent that we have coming up, I'm sure they will need it. I am confident that this year's game will be a preview of the games to come. I still believe that Marshall wins by at least two scores. I guess we will all find out if I high, and unrealistic expectations, or, if I know something about this team that most people don't. I guess we'll see.

Your teams scored a grand total of 27 points on us the last two seasons across the board in the 6 games played (Fish/JV/Varsity) while giving up 217, so it no doubt would be something most people don't see.
But like I said, worry about Tyler before us.

Like I said before, this is not last year's team, or, the team of years before. As the old saying goes: "like the dog said when they cut off his tail, it won't be long now!" The 2022 season is literally upon us, and we will all know the true reality of what really is as this season unfolds. As you said, let us first take care of Tyler. Then we will take up this conversation again.

2-19 Vs. Longview lately......
Doesn't matter what kind of season we've had..... doesn't matter who the coach was..... doesn't matter how much talent we've had... one thing has been pretty consistent..... we lose to Longview.
Maybe we should win some games against them before talking smack.
I'd love to see us turn things around Vs. the Lobos. I'd love to see the series become competitive again. Id love to see Marshall have a winning streak against them.....
But until that happens..... I don't see any point in talking smack. Looks foolish.
Besides..... history has shown.... we can do whatever Vs. Longview.... and still go on to have a fantastic season.
Not to mention.....we have a Tyler team to be thinking about first.
GO MAVS GO!
BEAT TYLER!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I respect that. You have yours, and I have mine. IMO, it all matters. Yes, over the years we have consistently lost to Longview. Now, I'm of the opinion that it matters not as much that we've lost to Longview, but why. You can call it talking smack if you want, and I very well may sound foolish. I just call it being confident in our kids (based on what I know), and our current coaching staff. It would've been easy to toot the "Big Red Horn" once we start winning, but I decided to go on and toot it now. Personally, I don't ascribe to the mind set that we (Marshall) lack the ability to consistently play with Longview (year in/out). There are some things that we'll just have to agree to disagree upon. As I've said before, I'm not a Longview hater. I want them to win except when they play Marshall. In fact, I have many cousins that has played for Longview (some now). I honestly believe that we both love Marshall, and want to see them do good, so I'll leave it there. As you said, we have Tyler first. After that, I'll get back to Longview. "Go Mavs!"

While a lot of Longview people want to bash the Longview-Marshall series, its not really about Marshall, it's more about Longview.
Longview is just that much better than everyone else in 5A/6A in East Texas.
We haven't just lost to Longview, we've been dominated most seasons. I think that's a reflection on where Longview is, less a reflection of where Marshall is. Like Mavchamp said, we've gone on to some great seasons after losing to Longview. We're just in different orbits right now.
Who else in our district would give Longview a better game the last decade? Two decades? Maybe Texas High....but they'd still lose.
Would Nac be more competitive against Longview than Marshall has been? I say no. Whitehouse? Hell no. Hallsville? Absolutely not. Mount Pleasant? Not even close. Pine Tree? Laughable.
What Longview has done to Marshall the last 20 years is the exact same thing they would be doing to everyone else in our district.
Look what they've done to Tyler Lee. Lufkin hasn't been competitive with them in a long time. Tyler is the only one that as half way been competitive when they have strong seasons. But when they are down, Longview stomps them into the ground too.
Losing big to Longview is just what East Texas schools do. None are in their orbit. Until others catch up to them, then we have to wait for them to fall to Earth some. Which sounds like isn't happening soon.

Longview shouldn't even be in our vocabulary right now.
Tyler. Tyler. Tyler. Tyler. No one else but Tyler.
If we beat Tyler....it won't help us one bit Vs. Longview.
If we get our clocks cleaned Vs. Tyler..... Longview is the least of our problems.
One game at a time.
Personally.....I have high hopes for the 2022 season. And the outcome of the Longview game will have very little bearing on that, TBH.

After watching the JT vs Longview game from last year, I'm feeling a little more optimistic about this match-up.
I know every team matches up differently, but it was 49-0. They were having Qb issues but we were experimenting with different qbs as well. Neither team was able to establish much offense vs the Longview D, but holding Longview to 14 is no easy task when the offense doesn't have the ball very long. Most years it would have snowballed on us just like it did vs JT.
Jt will be fresh with healthy qbs and McFall moving around. So their Offense will be much better than what they showed vs Longview. I expect a battle with our offense being the x factor. Can we score? If so, I believe the defense will give them a chance.

Like I've said...
Our defense SHOULD be good enough to make this game winnable for us....
BUT.....
It all comes down to the new offense. If they come out struggling..... fumbling the ball.... or throwing interceptions..... Tyler will run us out of the stadium.
The offense doesn't have to come out guns blazing in game one. Just come out and be smart. Be efficient. Hold onto the ball. Play keep-away from Tyler... and let the defense do their thing. We may can steal this game.
Tyler has an all-world player in McFail. If we let him take the game over.... that'll end our night quick too. He's that good.
Question is....will Tyler come out guns blazing? They were sporadic last season on offense. Sometimes great....sometimes not. Maybe they will gift us with some turnovers.
So many unknowns heading into a new season.

The night's success will fall on how well the offense plays. No matter what happens in the first few games though, I think we've got a pretty good squad this season. Been a long time since I've seen and heard so much excitement. Sort of reminds me of 2018 and that was a special season.

It would be a pretty big upset if Marshall pulls off the win. No one really seems to be giving us much of a chance. Tyler fans are saying they will have a long season if they don't blow us out. Sounds like they are expecting to bomb us at home.

It's all going to come down to offensive line and QB play. JQ Davis should be the best RB in the district. But without the OL it won't matter. We need some WRs to step up too. They dropped some perfect passes from Slone last season. Can't be dropping the easy ones. And of course Slone can't be tossing interceptions. He has to make his reads, his progressions, and make some safe, accurate throws. Just tossing it up will lead to turnovers.

I wonder if we will be rotating QBs like we were last year when Olvrera was hurt.

I would like to see a wing T package with Bird at Qb & JQ and Quin in the backfield.

We lost at the end of the game, on a play to Hale. But this was only after our starting DB was out of the game due to injury. Buckle up, and get ready for the ride. Jalen Hale played varsity as a freshman. Did not play a single snap of 9th grade football for Longview. Marshall did beat Judson when these SRs were in 8th grade but Judson was also the worst MS team in Longview that year. Forest Park beat them 16-6 and Foster (where Jalen Hale went and the best LV MS team that year) beat Judson 20-6. Longview's SR class is good. But the JR class is special and the main reason why Longview is ranked so high going into the season. Sophomore class also special and there is no let up with '26 and '27. Matter of fact, '26 has maybe the most trench talent that I've seen in one Longview class.

He's talking about the 16-12 Lobo win, where Marshall literally drained the clock the entire game. Believe we had 4 total possessions. Wright & Hamilton scored for us that night.

I thought it was Hale, but I stand corrected. That doesn't change how I feel, and what I think the outcome of the upcoming game will be. If I'm wrong, I'll come back and say so. But, until then I'm sticking with my prediction (Marshall over Longview).

Probably not as unlikely as you think. Gonna be worse the following week. Lobo fans trash talk their opponents more than any fan base in Texas. Trash Marshall, John Tyler, Tyler Lee, Lufkin. They can't help themselves.

They can't help themselves. 2nd most annoying fan base in East Texas. Gilmer got them beat though. They are truly awful. But until Marshall, Tyler, Legacy, or Lufkin actually beats Longview regularly, then I guess they get to rattle their swords all they want.

After seeing us in the scrimmage, I think we're going to be okay. We're way ahead of where we were this time last year. We had no idea who the quarterback was going to be. We weren't settled in our offense at all. It was all still experimenting. We looked like we were in really good condition. Slone looked confident. I think we hang with Tyler. Not saying we will win. But I think we can hang with them. They are unsettled in several positions too. And I'm willing to bet they will have some conditioning issues. We just might shock everyone.

I know that there many things that happen over the course of a season that will effect the final outcome, but I'm all in on this Maverick football team. Anyone who really knows these kids, and the current coaching staff knows that this team is poised to do something very special. Contrary to popular belief,I believe that this team will hit the ground rolling in mid-season form. Unlike most, I will not be cautious, nor reserved in my prediction of the outcome of the Marshall/Tyler football game. Marshall no only win, but by at least 3 scores That's my belief, and I'm sticking with it.
