Most of our passes are short, quick throws and 50-50 jump balls. You can work with almost anybody at Qb to be somewhat efficient in these route trees.
Against good defenses it has been hard sledding to move the ball in the running game. With the passing game being hit or miss anyways.
Bird Robinson spent some time at Qb last year in the spread. He definitely isn't a spread precision passer, but with some development time with the coaches, he could become efficient enough in the passing game to add a whole new threat to the offense.
JQ and the Sophomore are good enough to hold down the backfield duties. Defenses key on our running game anyways, may as well add another dimension to it. I'm sure it wouldn't take him long to nail down the short passing game and 50 50 jump balls. At least enough to keep the defense somewhat honest. Even if it's just a certain special package at first. We will have games coming up to kind of experiment and play around with it.
I think we are a good offense either way and will score alot of points against district opponents. But I think that's the difference in being good to potentially being great.
Just think having a dynamic runner at the Qb position would instantly give us more options and be a major headache for defensive coordinators. The rbs would find easier sledding as well as they can't be keyed in on. Looking back on JAs state title team, he had a dual threat Qb at the helm. I think it's almost a necessity in HS these days. Unless you have developed a passer in your system for several years and the oline can hold blocks long enough to utilize it.
Not a knock on our current Qbs, Just a thought. The system is in place to take pressure off the Qbs arm for most part.
