Nac still has not named their HFC. It's April. Talk about putting a guy behind the eight-ball........
1. Coming off of a wildly disappointing season that you were picked to be a playoff team and you finished 1-9 2. Participation was so low you had to cancel your JV games at the end of the season 3. While they slipped into the playoffs in 2021....they still had a losing record. 4. Very little community support 5. Staff won't be in town till likely June 6. No spring football 7. Hard to imagine 7 on 7 will happen in such a short amount of time 8. Football is not THE SPORT at Nac.
I've been pulling for the Dragons to get better for years....(minus when they play Marshall). it looked like they were headed in the right direction after the 2020 season....but things have kind of fallen apart for them.
What you thinking Nac fans?

Nacogdoches is trash when it comes to football. They compete pretty good in all other sports, but they just can't seem to get any momentum in football. Just not enough support from the community or administration. SFA is the only football team anyone cares about in Nac.

You never know....but it looks like Nac is in for a long season this year.
I'm still impressed they are managing to get spring ball organized. That's pretty impressive considering how late the hire was.

Lufkin has a shot, but I think it's a long shot. Nacogdoches has as good of a chance as anyone in their district to make the playoffs. No one can be overlooked because that district is terrible. There isn't one single GOOD team in their district. Texas High is the best of them and they lost in the first round of the playoffs to a fourth place playoff team with a losing record. Marshall is probably second and they would get absolutely BLASTED by the worst team in our district. Whitehouse is next and they aint ever won anything ever in football. I hear their sledgehammer team talks a lot of . If I was Nacogdoches or Pine Tree or Mt Pleasant I'd be stoked about this season. Any of them could beat any of the teams ranked ahead of them. Didn't Nac beat Whitehouse last year? Didn't Mt. Pleasant beat Marshall last year or the year before. The district is putrid.

Try again. Only beat us twice in the last 25 years.

As one who has watched the Dragons the past few years and with the exit of Coach Allman, I have come to believe that the Dragons problems are complicated and not easily correctable. We must find a way to stop the Dragons downward momentum.
For the record Coach Darren Allman is an outstanding Head Football Coach. I had high hopes when he signed on the job. The guy has been a winner since his playing days at Odessa Permian which has led him to coach successfully at several schools acroos the State of Texas. His release from NHS was not because of a lack of effort to turn the program around. I have the utmost respect for Coach Allman and his supportive wife and wish them both well.
The issue arises as the Dragon Program is mired in a sea of mediocrity, that you can sell the kids on a program, but you also have to sell that program to the parents. At this moment we have many who are not buying what is being sold. Now, we have some excellent parents that have supported their kids and the team, but they are a small minority of folks that carry the load. You need a wide spectrum of dedicated parents that are willing to be a part of the Booster Club and all of the activities that reflect a serious level of concern for their kids. Being there is part of the battle to help climb out of this THSFB morass.
We live in an era of 1 parent homes or where both parents work demanding jobs, but that is no excuse. This is an endemic issue that plagues many a program, yet most of those high school programs continue to flourish. Not so in Nacogdoches. It is almost like an atmosphere of perpetual failure. Look at the Dragons win-loss record over the past 30 years. Not many highlights to speak of. There should be no excuse when it comes to talent in the school house. With a general student population of over 1700, there should be plenty of young boys that could elevate this program.
My hopes is that our new young HC/AD Coach Darby House can discover that rosetta stone to finally turn this program around. It will not be an easy task. As one who cut his teeth on West Texas Football over 50 years ago (as a scrub mind you), with supportive parents, I understand the intrinsic value that a winning program can provide for our kids. If you attend a Booster Club meeting in Midland or Odessa, you see 40-60 parents in attendance weekly. It is an invaluable asset to have adults supporting their kiddo and his team mates as well. I desire that each player has the opportunity to reflect upon his high school football experience with pride and fondness and that he and his football brothers will share those times for the decades that lay ahead for them.
Sometimes all it takes is to have one oustanding season to start an avalanche of winning in the future. If you build it, they will come...sort of thing. You just need everyone....including the, parents, adminstration, and community at large...to be a part of the experience. We are better , together.
Go Dragons.

You should NEVER lose a home playoff game. That's just inexcusable. Glad to know Marshall is good enough to beat Mount Pleasant every year. Must make you proud

Go Dragons.
An update from Nacogdoches Dragon Stadium - Those outside the city limits of Nac , we had a surmontal deluge of precipitation about 2 weeks ago ( 6 inches ) that inudated the turf. It was decided that the turf had suffered unrepairable damage and a new turf would be installed. An emergency meeting with N.I.S.D. decided to recarpet the playing surface. I noticed earlier last week as I was puttering around town the carpet had been rolled up into several rolls and we dispensed to a local company that is now selling portions of the carpet. Thursday I got a closer look at the surface from the gates near the fieldhouse and took a couple of images. From what I understand , Hellas out of Austin ( who also carpeted the baseball diamond 3 years ago ) will complete the project. I thought I saw 3 large bags of the black pellets staged on a trailer outside of the stadium in the parking lot. Supposedly these surfaces are to last 10 years. We only got 7 years out of this current incarnation. It is time to get after laying the new surface down because football is less than 70 days away from those who forewent Spring Practices. Can't wait for Texas High School Footbal to start once again......Lord willing and the creeks don't rise again.
