5. Calude Mathis- His record wasn't fancy. But he put Marshall back on the map and had a great run to the region semis in 2018. If he had stayed I think Marshall would have challenged for a state championship in 2019.
4. Thederick Harris- He made it to two region championships in 2007 and 2009. I don't think any of us will ever know what lead to his leaving Marshall, but he had some good seasons.
3. Bill Harper- I think he's the all-time winningest coach in Marshall history.
2. Rodney Southern- He should have won a state championship in 2004. But he made it to 2 title games.
1. Dennis Parker- He won the state championship in 1991. He had was close to winning a few others. He's the best one in my lifetime.

Whoever was the coach back in the 20's and 30's when Marshall had all those great teams with Y.A. Tittle has got to be in the conversation. I have no idea who it was though.

He was (98-40-13). H was the coach from 1920-34. Believe it or not.... Y.A. Tittle didn't play for him. Tittle was born in 1926.... just as Marshall was making all those great runs to the same semi-finals. Tittle played at MHS in the early to mid 40's Under Coach Otis Mitchell....who went (37-15-2) while he was HC. 1. Dennis Parker (56-27-1) Region finals, State semi finals, state championship 2. Red Willis 3. Bill Harper 4. Otis Mitchell 5. Rodney Southern

I thought Bill harper was the winningest coach in Marshall history. But it looks like that Red Willis guy is. We won 90-something games. Harper won 70-something.
Dennis Parker is def #1.
After that it gets fuzzy. Harper won a lot of games over a long period of time, but his last 4-5 years were rough before we dropped to 4A. I think his struggles lead to him retiring early.
Southern probably would have broken the record if he had stayed and had the teams Harris had from 07-10. Probably would have made another state title game. 2009 for sure.
I think Greidl would have won a lot of games if he had stuck around.
Mathis used Marshall and we allowed it to happen. No one can be mad about what he did. We knew it was going to happen before we hired him and we hired him anyway.

1. Bill Harper- The one coach that actually called Marshall home. 2. Dennis Parker- The one that brought home the hardware 3. Rodney Southern- The one that made us relevant again 4. Clint Harper- The one who brought us back from the dead 5. Jake Greidl- The one that gave us state of the art facilities
