Y’all some crazy talking folk. Marshall ain’t won nothing in 30 years and y’all talking like you Longview. Going to start the season 0-3 might be 0-4 if you choke against Henserson. Going to lose to Texas Hi. Probably to Pine Stump too. Y’all lucky to be 5-5 but probably 4-6. Marshall ain’t gonna change. Losers are always going to lose. You can always count on two things. 1. Lobo fans thinking they are better than they are. 2. Lobo fans telling their opponents how bad they are. There are plenty of places for Lobo fans to talk trash. Why come here? Be gone illiterate one.

I heard Montana Warren transferred to Henderson.... this true? And Why? Henderson was 4-6 last season I think they were 2-8 the year before that. If you are planning on going to a D-1 school why would you leave a program that's headed up for a program that can't even make the playoffs? TCU is going to retract their offer.

Isn't Warren's Dad a coach? If so that might be a reason he would transfer if his dad took a job down there. Unless this is founded upon something I don't see any need to question his rumored decision. Also, just because if he ends up transferring to a different school doesn't mean TCU will withdraw and offer. Henderson pretty consistently puts out talent. They have a couple guys this year that are in the draft.

Hearing lots of positives from spring drills. The coaches are really doing some great teaching.... the players are working their tails off. Lots of energy and excitement. Effort all over the place.
Those are the kind of things you want to hear during the spring!!!!

Is the offense going to be any good this season or will it be all on the defense again this year?

Is the offense going to be any good this season or will it be all on the defense again this year? Defense should be pretty good this season. It will definitely be the strength of the team. But the offense should be much improved. Simplified in some ways and more complex in other ways. Should be less predictable, which has been the biggest down fall the last few seasons dating back to at least 2017. It should be a fun year.

First week of spring drills are in the books.
As I posted above..... everything I've heard has been positive. Effort all over the place. Coaches in the trenches teaching.
Everyone working hard.
Very interested in seeing how it all comes together for the Red and White game. I'll be there.

I agree with Mavchamp, the effort is there and no doubt there is tons of excitement. But I'm worried about this new offense. It looks really vanilla basic. I don't think it will be hard to stop after a couple of series. Good teams like Longview, Carthage, and Texas High are going to shut it down completely after they get the feel for what we're doing. It just seems very simplistic. Almost elementary. You can't run mickey mouse offense in this district. Even teams like Nac and Pine Tree will shut it down. Hopefully we are just starting slow with installing the offense and this is just scratching the surface.

I’d be willing to bet it’s just building the foundation and it will progress into lots of window dressing and variation so everything looks the same but isn’t

It's an offense that will keep the defense guessing. They aren't going to know if they are are running or passing the ball. The possibilities of who will get the ball are going to be insane.... QB keeper, hand it off to 2 maybe 3 backs in the backfield (depending on the formation). Short passes to the tight end.... lots of motion to confuse if the RBs will get the toss. Throws downfield, cross the middle and down the sideline. It's going to be fun to watch.

I'm really excited to see this offense at the Red and White game. This is a good thing....seeing a system being installed... hopefully 7-12. That's what we really need for more consistency.
We've struggled with our offensive identity for a while now it seems. Ever since Justin Hart.... it's been a battle for us at QB almost every season. CHganging offense year after year to fit the skill set of the QB we had that season.
2016- Cameron Haller. Dude was a stud on the football field. Total ATH. The offense was totally built around him that season. Mostly his legs. 2017- Hunter Herrington. While Haller was all about his legs.... Herrington was more about the arm. So another offensive switch. They shared duties...which made us a little predictable based on who was going in Herrington (Pass) Haller (run). 2018- JJ Green. He was a lot like Haller. ATH. Great runner. Good arm. No secret it was one of the best offenses Marshall has had in years. 2019- Loss of JJ was huge for this team. Savion Williams saved the season for the Mavs taking over at QB, but it was never where he truly wanted to be. He was just so gifted as an athlete he made it work. But we never had an offensive identity that season. 2020- Brent Burris. Guy had a great arm. Unfortunately he was running for his life on almost every play. If the O-line had gelled together, he could have put up some crazy good numbers. But his lack of protection coupled with some bad drops by WR's made his job tough. 2021- QB by committee with Olvera, Collier Slone, and the Sophomore...which name escapes me ATM. Offense again.... depended on who was out there. Always changing.
It'll be interesting to see a SYSTEM installed and the athletes expected to perform it instead of the system being changed around them. We haven't really seen that since Rodney Southern.
Like I said....I'm really interested to see how this all looks. Should be a fun season.

Couple of transfers are going to make immediate impacts to the team this fall. Lots of talent. We should make some noise in the district and in the playoffs. What districts would we face in the first couple of rounds in the playoffs? I'm assuming it will be Dallas area schools now instead of going south.

District 7 is East and Northeast Metroplex area. District 6 is DISD schools, and 5 is South Metroplex.

What districts would we face in the first couple of rounds in the playoffs? I'm assuming it will be Dallas area schools now instead of going south. First round of the playoffs would be Vs. District 7: Crandall (6-5) Denison (7-4) Greenville (3-7) Lucas Lovejoy (12-2) Melissa (11-3) Mesquite Poteet (8-4) Princeton (4-6) Terrell (4-6) Several good programs in that district. Namelu Poteet and Denison, which are generally contenders more often than not. Melissa and Lovejoy have been trending up in the last few years as well. Greenville, Terrell, and Liberty have traditionally struggled of late. The second round would be the winners from first round games from Districts 5 Vs. 6. District 6 is all Dallas ISD schools...and most of them are incredibaly weak with one glaring exception: SOUTH OAK CLIFF. So a date with the defending state champs awaits one of the lucky teams that wins in the first round. Outside of SOC.... I don't see any of the other district 6 teams winning.... which means most first round winners from our side would get district 5 winners. Here's a look at district 5: Arlington Seguin (6-5) Burleson (8-4) Corsicana (6-4) Ennis (11-1) Everman (6-5) Joshua (3-7) Mansfield Summit (11-4) Midlothian Heritage (8-4) This may be one of the toughest 5A Div II districts in the state with 4 teams out of the 8 that went at least two rounds deep in the playoffs last season. The third and fourth rounds would be a mix of all four districts culminating into the region championship. The semi-finals would bring about the likes of Abilene Cooper, Grapevine, Denton, or the Frisco schools. The state championship would be the likes of FB Marshall, Port Neches-Groves, Huntsville, Brenham, Waco, or Austin area schools. Less travel than years past in the playoffs without a doubt..... but the competition is just as tough...if not tougher in region II than it was in region III.

Hey Mavchamp!!!
Maxpreps has Marshall having SIX away games and only FOUR home games in 2022. Is that right? It's not what you have posted.
Home: Tyler, Henderson, Carthage, Pine Tree
Away: Longview, Hallsville, Mount Pleasant, Texas High, Nac, Whitehouse
That can't be right. I hope not. 5 straight road games to end the season. No way we would let that be scheduled that way.

MISD hasn't announced it yet; so it's possible there could be a few changes (but not expecting many because most of our opponents have released theirs already. Generally speaking.... MAXPREPS isn't the best source of information. There are too many hands in the cookie jar so to speak. As soon as it's announced (officially).... I'll get it updated and posted. But with the exception of maybe one game....I'm confident what I have posted is pretty accurate. Thanks!

Too many returning starters coming back this year for a bad season. Anything less than 9-1 in the regular season and a third round playoff year should be considered a disappointment.

That's high expectations for a team with a new coaching staff and an entirely different system. I hope you are right though. I do believe this offense will be much more efficient and effective than the previous couple seasons. Most defenses are designed to stop the spread these days. I think we will be underdogs vs JT, LV, Carthage, and TH. Anything less than 6-4 will be a big disappointment. Depending on how quick the team picks everything up, I think 7-3 or 8-2 is very plausible. 2nd or 3rd round is reasonable.

I hope and pray we have a good season. New coach that is building a great staff should be exciting to watch. I agree that we probably won't win district but I think we have a chance to bring that title home if Texas High isn't as good as we think they'll be. Other than Texas High I think we should win every district game we just have to keep our heads on straight and play some good ball. Season Prediction: Week 1: Vs. Tyler W (I think it'll be a good game but one where we pull away towards the end) Week 2: @ Longview L (It's Longview, we honestly shouldn't even play this game anymore) Week 3: Vs. Henderson W (I hope it'll be a good game but we'll probably have it in the bag by halftime) Week 4: Vs. Carthage L (I hope I'm wrong but I think Coach Surratt will prove too much for our boys) Week 5: Vs. Pine Tree W (Pine Tree will improve from last season but so will we) Week 6: @ Hallsville W (It's Hallsville, I don't think I'll ever pick them to win) Week 7: Vs. Mount Pleasant W (Another Hallsville type situation, I'll never pick them to win over Marshall) Week 8: @ Texas High L (Best coaching staff in the district if not ETX, They're my pick for district champions) Week 9: OFF Week 10: Vs. Nacogdoches W ( Not sure how much they'll improve but if we play good ball we'll have this one easy) Overall Record: 6-3 (4-1 District) District Runner-ups

Red and White game is going to be interesting. This offense could be really fun to watch. Maybe the most balanced offense we've had since 2015.
Is the red and white game on Thursday or Friday? What time?

I'm working on finalizing the schedule. The district schedule looks like it's set according to the schedules other teams have released.
The Longview and Tyler games look to be locked in too based on their athletic office releases.
Carthage and Henderson could still be up in the air. Currently have Henderson at home and Carthage away...but that could switch....OR... both could end up at home.
Stay tuned.
