Part of me wants to say Lufkin, but most of us have come to expect this from them. Panther fans talked big over the summer about how this team was different and would challenge for the district championship but I think most of us knew better. Everyone else knew the district was improved from last year and that there was no way Lufkin was going to make the strides to beat anyone that finished above them in the standings. Whitehouse would be the next one. They were suppose to challenge for the district championshp and they got blown out by Texas High then lost homefield for the playoffs when they lost to Marshall then they got beat in the playoffs. Ending with a three game losing streak is bad. Nacogdoches was suppose to be a playoff team at least and they ended in the basement. I think Marshall is a little disappointed in their overall record although I think they are where they expected to be in the playoffs so far.

We wanted to go at least one step further than we did last season....and we've done that. No matter what happens this week.....I'll feel like we progressed. I'll agree that we are disappointed in our record. (6-5) is nothing to brag about... We lost a 5OT game to Tyler by one point that we most certainly could have won. That would have made us (7-4). Our inexplicable loss to MP still boggles my mind. I think we win that game 4 out of 5 times. But MP did what they needed to to win. But take that hiccup away and you're looking at (8-3). All of a sudden a season that looks kind of meh.... is looking pretty memorable. We could argue about the merits of playing both Longview and Carthage in non-district. Having a more reasonable non-district could flip a loss or two into wins. Sure (9-2) would be awesome and we'd likely have a lot more respect headed into this game. But at the end of the day..... If we earn the upset this week and we advance to the region semis..... who cares if we are (7-5) or (12-0)..... we will have proven our worthiness.

I agree that Lufkin has got to be disappointed. Personally....I didn't think they were playoff material this season. Not with Longview being Longview. And I don't think anyone expected Lancaster to struggle the way they did...but they still got in. My biggest reasons for thinking LP wasn't a playoff team was Forney and McKinney North.
My gut feeling ended up being right.
But I know the LP fans were fired up headed into the season. Especially about their defense. Their offense just never seemed to gel like I think they believed they would.
I feel bad for LP fans..... Marshall knows that road all too well.
I'm grateful to feel like we are moving forward while it feels like LP is regressing.
---------------------
Whitehouse has GOT to be disappointed. They were predicted to be #2 in the district. They believed they would give Texas High a run for their money again this season. They were sitting at #2 in the regular season finale..... and was 2 mins away from hosting a playoff game when they were ahead of Marshall. But that last second TD by the Mavs snatched away the #2 seed AND the playoff game.
That's tough.
And they also lost a first round match-up against a Denison team they likely would have beaten and ended up playing on the road against a Melissa team that was ranked #1 in the state most of season.
And you said it..... they ended the season losing 3 in a row.
-------------------- Mount Pleasant has got to be pretty disappointed too. They have been looking for a big program win for a long time...and they finally got one this season when they beat Marshall. It looked like they were well on their way to making the playoffs. But a loss to Pine Tree proved very costly.
It looked like they were going to sneak in at the very end when PT upset Texas High in the regular season finale and Marshall was losing to Whitehouse. But Marshall's last second TD win ended their playoff hopes.
That's pretty disappointing as as fan.
--------------------
Pine Tree made the playoffs....which is rare in and of itself....they are always excited. And them getting big wins over MP and Texas High to get in has to make them feel pretty good.....
BUT.....
After all the summer talk......finishing in 4th could be seen as a disappointment by some.
Personally....I think PT has to be pretty excited about how their season ended....even with the playoff loss.
--------------------
Nacogdoches seemed to be a bit of a dumpster fire with the late hire of their coach. But everyone knew Nac had some talent....esp on offense.
I didn't rally expect Nac to push for a playoff spot this season.... they had too much of a late start with everything.
but I didn't expect (3-7) either.
--------------------
I think most fans new Hallsville was going to fall off with the loss of their All-World player last season in Jase Mosley.
But (1-9) was not what I was expecting. Hallsville was pretty awful on both sides of the ball.
Lucky for them....baseball season is coming.

Lufkin is stuck in groundhog Day. We are stuck on a treadmill of misery we can't get off of.

Lufkin is stuck in groundhog Day. We are stuck on a treadmill of misery we can't get off of. And it won't be any easier in your new district down south. Still won't be relevant.
