I saw where the Longview school bond failed. Like the bond in Marshall a few years ago.... it was a contentious issue for a lot of people for a lot of different reasons (on both sides of the argument).
To be honest...I was surprised it failed. I expected to barely pass just like their 2008 bond. But it was voted down by a HUGE margin. I definitely didn't expect a landslide loss.
The bond would have renovated LHS, renovated Lobo Stadium and Lobo Coliseum, and built an indoor practice facility.
Bonds in East Texas are so stinking hard to pass unless it's for schools only.... and even then they can be hard to pass. But anything addressing athletic facilities seems to make it exponentially more difficult. Especially when the price tag is in the $230 million range.
I wish MISD could consider a small bond to finish the renovation of MHS, but I'd say that's unlikely to happen.
The school board has done an outstanding job of getting MHS renovated a little a time without a bond. Very grateful for their efforts.
Bonds also failed in Ore City, Abilene, and several places around Texas.
Tough times to be asking for more money from the taxpayers.

From The Panola Watchman on May 7-
Beckville ISD voters have approved a $17 million bond, according to unofficial results released by the district on Saturday night. The bond will help the district build a new competition gym and a high school addition, along with some renovations to the Junior High building. The bond has a 20-year payout. The competition gymnasium will be coliseum style with a focus on girls athletics in terms of the locker room and from an athletic point of view. The new high school building would be built to especially help accommodate the film studio program, the culinary arts program and the band program, as well as life skills, special education and special needs.
