Defense dominated the scrimmage. They were quick and all over the field.
Offense struggled at times...but also showed some promise.
JQ Davis is a beast. Bird in the backfield with him will make a two-headed monster for the Mavs running the ball.
Collier Slone is really progressing. Those games late last season matured him. He made some good throws yesterday. QB Zach Smith also made some good plays.
Offensive line will be a work in progress.

Overall.... it was a very controlled scrimmage.
Nothing to get too excited about....but nothing to make you want to push the panic button either.
Lots of effort. Lots of excitement.

7 on 7 coming until August drills get here.

I hear a large incoming Freshman class is headed into the program (about 70 kids).
Great news.
Looks like varsity and JV numbers are down from last season. Sounds like we've weeded out some laziness with the new staff. Always going to lose a few with a staff change.... some just don't adapt to change.
But this doing some great hands on teaching..... really liked what I saw. Lots of instruction.

The sluggish offense is concerning. We should be humming on offense with all the returning starters we have.
By biggest question is: where are all the players? It looked really thin out there to me. Are numbers down? Were people held out? Have that many players graduated? Or have some quit with the new staff? Seemed really small out there to me. We should have 120 kids out there. I bet there less than 80.

Remember there weren't any incoming freshman in the scrimmage.... and from what I hear....we have a HUGE incoming freshman class.
