I think every single Mav fan wants to see this become a rivalry again. But every year the game never lives up to the hype. Longview fans don't respect us and they have no reason to. I can't even remember the last time we actually gave them a good game. It was probably 2015. This game always seems to bring out the worst in us. We fumble more, tackle less, and make more mental mistakes than we do in any other game all season. Have to give them credit, they are the reason for a lot of all those mistakes, but it seems it's more self inflicted than anything else. I want to believe. But history is telling me this is going to be ore of the same.

Is it time to end this game and find another early season opponent, or do we honor the tradition and continue?

Replace them with Kilgore. Ive always thought we were more similar programs and thus a bigger rivalry ensued naturally. The intensity of the rivalry was noticeable every game we played. Both crowds were always very into the game.

Win or lose we will be better for this game. Let's get the W, but if we don't we can learn from it and be better for district.

Maybe a close game and a possible win will make Mavchamp stop crying about ending the series.

Maybe a close game and a possible win will make Mavchamp stop crying about ending the series. Because (1-22) of mostly 50-7 games are sooooo helpful. Wouldn't some really competitive games Vs. an Ennis or a Corsicana, or anyone be better? A game against ANYONE that was more like 10-7 or 14-10 or 21-17 would be exponentially better for the team than 50-7. All the Longview game does (besides make money for both schools) is give the punt and kickoff teams a good work out. Have you seen Longview's record against East Texas schools the last 15-20 years? No one can compete. So let's go find some TOUGH, COMPETITIVE game. There IS a reason the UIL classifies schools by enrollment. Longview has 800+ more than us... and is now two classifications above us. Time to move on. JMHO.

You never get better by playing teams you know you can beat. I don't want us to play games against teams I know we can beat. I don't think anyone wants that. No one wants a powder puff game. We want a TOUGH, COMPETITIVE game. A game against a quality opponent that's in our classification (or at least be close). A close game that we can battle to the end. Have some long drives. Get our snaps. Going 3 and out 12 times and then punting doesn't make us better. Getting a hard-nosed win from a similar opponent is what makes you better. People always want to remember Dennis Parker and Bill Harper with thier big games against Permian, Dallas Carter, Killeen Ellion, Evangel..... But they forget we were playing other teams too..... Southwood, FW Dunbar, Huntington, Kilgore...... Non-district is all about getting tested....getting stronger. 55-7 annually isn't it.

I don't think we're going to be able to run the ball against Longview the way we did against Tyler. Their defense is another dimension better than Tyler. Our offensive line had some issues on a couple of drives the other night and those struggles are going to be magnified against Longview. We can't beat Longview if we are as one dimensional as we were Friday night. We've got to make the blocks to give Alton the time to find his guys. He had some really good passes that were completely dropped by our receivers. We can't drop passes against Longview. I think the Longview offense struggling was a combination of the rain and Lufkin having a good defense. Give them credit for keeping Longview in check. I don't think our defense is as good as Lufkin's. Longview is going to come out trying to set the world on fire. Our defense better get ready for some deep passes and a running game that want 400 yards on the ground. I do think we should be able to keep the game close, but we haven't beat them in so long no one remembers how. I bet it's been ten years since we beat Longview. I want the upset, but we will need a perfect game and hope Longview helps us out.

I've watched both games and several interviews and this team seems to have a great approach to the game. I love how the coaches and players respond to questions. There is a real team mentality going on and I think there is a lot of potential to have a special season. We have our hands full for this game no doubt. I do believe this team will continue to exceed expectations. I think we have a great coaching staff, the potential for an electric offene, and defense that is going to cause some headaches. Any given Friday, go Mavs!

Hope the Mavs can pull off the upset to get people excited about the game again. It seems like fans on both sides are sort of over it.
