I'm just curious as to what 4A district we would fall into? I'm guessing Carthage and Henderson's district?
How close are we to dropping?

No were close to dropping to 4A you will need to lose about 400 plus kids for that

More like 250ish to drop to 4a D1. Carthage is D2 and will stay there. More like Lindale, Kilgore Tyler Chapel hill, Jacksonville district

They would be in this district in 4A Div I
District 9
Athens
Henderson
Jacksonville
Kilgore
Lindale
Palestine
Tyler Chapel Hill
Not much chance of them moving down to 4A any time soon. Probably not ever unless there is a big drop in enrollment. But our numbers have gone up the last two alignments. If 7A ever comes to be there would be even less chance of us ever dropping.

Marshall is expected to report about 1500 this coming fall. That would put them about 200 over the 4A cutoff of 1,299.
The top number for 4A has generally only increased about 20 per alignment. That means it wouldn't hit our enrollment levels for another 15-20 years IF those trends continue....or if we were to see a big drop.
But like the above poster said..... the eventual formation of 7A will likely cement Marshall into 5A for good. Schools like Longview would likely be cemented into 6A for good. But that's probably not going to happen until 2026 or maybe even 2028.

I don't mean this as a slight to any of the 4A schools, but WHY would you want Marshall to play in 4A?
I can't think of a positive to come out of it.
Marshall doesn't need to be in 6A because we are too small, but we don't need to be in 4A either because we are too big. We are exactly where we need to be.
Our current classification is the best situation for us to flourish and win in. We just need to get to that point.

I agree that 5A Div II is our best place to be..... we just need to seize the moment. Never in our history have we been more equal to our competition enrollment wise as we are right now. In football at least.
The only positive I see of us being in 4A Div I would be the bigger crowds..... but other than that.....I'd have to say I prefer our current district. No crazy drives. Everyone is fairly close in enrollment.... good facilities for everyone across the board. Nothing to really complain about.
Let's just go win some more.

I like our 5A district. It's the best fit we've ever had. We have no business playing football against Longview, Lufkin, or the Tyler schools for district. They are all so much bigger than us. But we also have no business playing those 4A schools listed. They are all so much smaller than us.
