District 8-5A Week 1 Scores

Marshall without a doubt had the upset of the night with their dominating win over 5A Div I Tyler. Lots to be thrilled about if your Marshall. But also lots to work on. A great way to open the season.

Mount Pleasant sent notice to the rest of the district that they are indeed still on their upward trajectory with their win over 4A powerhouse Pittsburgh. The Tigers could roll into district play (4-0)

I was a little shocked to see Nac struggle against Palestine. Granted.... they overcame a 21 point deficit to make it a close game.... but this is a Palestine team that hasn't had a winning record since 2013. I'll be interested to see how the Dragons play against Lufkin in week 2.

Texas High lost a close game to a very good Lone Star team.... which tells me.... in spite of them losing, the Tigers are still a very good football team... and without a doubt still the favorite for the district championship until further notice.

I wasn't shocked that Hallsville beat Terrell.... but I WAS shocked that the game was a close as it was. The Bobcats allowed a ton of points to a Terrell team that really isn't very good. Early on... it looks like more of the same with Hallsville. TONS of offense... and not much defense.

Pine Tree fell to 4A Van..... granted Van is usually a strong team...but they were suppose to be rebuilding this season. In spite of all that.... the Pirates struggled in this one.

Whitehouse won. Pity.

I work with a few Hallsville folk.  They think this is the year they finally get their win over Marshall.
