Sitting in Lobo Stadium Friday night was great. I don't even think it's the best stadium in East Texas anymore, but it's still one of the best. But it definitely gets you to thinking about the possibilities of Maverick Stadium if we had folks that cared about it. I haven't been to all the stadiums in our district yet. I've never been to Mount Pleasant and I've never been to Whitehouse, but I've seen them on videos. I can't help but wonder: do we have the worst stadium in our district?
Hallsville, Pine Tree, Mount Pleasant all have new stadiums in the last 5-10 years. Texas High had major renovations a few years ago. Whitehouse seems sort of dumpy. Nacogdoches might have had a renovation too.
Then you think about Carthage, Kilgore, Henderson, Sulphur Springs, and Jacksonville all have new stadiums or renovations.
Why is Marshall always 10 steps behind on this stuff? Maverick Stadium is a dump and it's falling apart. Can someone please do something before it completely falls in on itself?

We don't have the worst stadium. But it's definitely near the bottom.
1. Pine Tree- Best set up of all of them. Can have a long walk if you're late for a big game. But concessions, parking, seating, it's the best in the district. Visitors side is too small for big games. 2. Mount Pleasant- They have the best area under the stands for concessions. Parking is rough. But there's plenty of seats for the visiting team. No vid board. 3. Hallsville- Their visitors section is too small. Concessions are cramped and parking is terrible for big games. 4. Whitehouse- They have the best concessions area with it being in the endzone. Plenty of seats on the visitors side since they renovated Nothing special about it. 5. Marshall- We have the best setting with pine trees around. The pressbox and scoreboard are new. new lighting. But the stadium itself needs tons of work. 6. Texas High- worst parking in the district. the stands are in as bad a shape as Marshall but they don't even have bleachers. I do like their new concessions area. 7. Nacogdoches looks the same as it did in 1985 except it has turf and a video board.
But i agree. Maverick Stadium needs a ton of work.

To be fair..... MISD has done a LOT to Maverick Stadium over the last 3-4 years.
1. New Pressbox 2. Renovated Restrooms on both sides 3. New Stadium lights 4. Video Scoreboard 5. New turf 6. New track
But I totally agree that there is more to be done. I don't think anyone is arguing that. I've had a wish list for years. They have checked some of it off with the above live.... but there's more to be done. And some that likely won't ever happen. But it's fun to dream.
My wishlist:
1. New Ticket booth on BOTH sides. Those are pretty rough looking. 2. New Entrances/gates on both sides. Get rid of the regular fence and get some wrought iron and sandstone pillars (like Tyler entrance) 3. Either renovate the concessions on both sides OR...build new concessions behind the west endzone (like they have in Jacksonville) 4. New bleachers. They are rusted, falling apart. Stadiums chairs like they have at Lobo Stadium would be great. RED. At least for 2-3 sections on the home side and maybe the middle section on the visitor's side. 5. THe concrete is crumbling in some places. Especially the steps. THey needs to be painted white all the way up with red numbers. Would look fantastic. 6. The EAST WALL needs to be RED....not maroon. 7. The scoreboard needs some bricks/cinderblocks at the base of it. 8. Powerwashing.... but that point has been beat to death by some of you on here....lol.
That's just off the top of my head.
I still think Maverick Stadium is better than Nac and Texas High.... and Whitehouse really.
-------------------- How to pay for it is the issue. Will MISD use a bond? Can they even pass a bond?
If no bond passes....how do they get the work done? I'm guessing Mav Stadium needs about $2million in work. It was 5M in the bond in 2015...but some of that has been taken care of (pressbox).
I'm hoping another bond can be done...it's the only way to get the stadium renovated THE RIGHT WAY. But..... passing bonds for sports facilities in East Texas is REALLLLYYY HARD to do.
But I'm hoping... and REALLY hoping it can get done in the next season or two.
