I was listening to the radio broadcast last night and they said the varsity was down to 35 players due to injuries and other things.
Why are our numbers so low after having such huge numbers just 2-3 years ago?
I know we have a ton of freshmen this year, but why are the JV and Varsity numbers where they are? Can someone explain?

Weeding out the lazy and troublemakers. Won't be missed. Maybe it's bad coaches making bad decisions. Wrong. This is the best staff Marshall has had since Rodney Southern. They are building something special. Students will learn Coach Alvarez doesn't play. They will abide by the rules or be gone. He isn't a hard ass, but he expects everyone to follow the same rules. These kids think they can act a fool and get away with it. And some of them are learning that they can't just pack their bags and haul ass to Carthage or Hallsville just because they are mad. We are building Mavericks. No special treatment for anyone. TEAM. Be patient because big things are coming our way.

If you don’t have discipline you will never rise to the level of the elite teams.

If you don’t have discipline you will never rise to the level of the elite teams. THIS. Once the athletes realize they will follow the rules or be gone.... they will learn to make wiser decisions. It becomes a culture of discipline. A Culture of team. A culture of winning. We've had winning teams in the past....but we have missed the culture. It's why we have spurts of great teams....but aren't ANNUAL deep contenders like we see from our neighbors to the West. I think Coach Alvarez is building us towards that.

Sometimes coaches are stupid and don't listen to their players. They punish guys when they haven't done anything wrong. They pick on anyone that stands up to them.

Sometimes coaches are stupid and don't listen to their players. They punish guys when they haven't done anything wrong. They pick on anyone that stands up to them. And sometimes players are entitled and spoiled. And their parents are even worse. Players do stupid things sometimes and need to be punished for their actions. They want to run off to another team when they get mad. Some of them are finding out no one wants their troublemaking ways on their team either. Parents allow this garbage to go on instead of letting the coaches do what's best for their kids. And you aren't suppose to stand up to your leaders. You follow them. Unless they are breaking a law or a rule, then shut up and take the punishment. Punishment isn't about being mean to the athlete. It's about teaching them something valuable. Either wear that Maverick Red and White proudly and obey the rules or carry your tail to Waskom, Elysian Fields, Carthage, or Hallsville. We want Mavericks. Some players and their parents need to grow up.

Let's send all the troublemakers to Hallsville or EF. Won't be missed. I promise you that coach Alvarez will be having December ball in Marshall long before either of those will.
