Mavchamp has mentioned all the work that's gone into the stadium in the last few years, but we aren't finished. The bleachers need to be replaced, the concessions area needs updating. So many other things that could be done. I hope they don't think they are finished. We still have 5-6 months to get some work done. What's on your wish list for the stadium?

1. Red Stadium chairs. At least for Section C, but possibly for B, C, and D.
2. New bleachers for sections that don't get #1, including the visitor's side.
3. Either renovate the concessions area under the stadium....OR put a concessions area in the endzone (East side?) like they have in Jacksonville and Whitehouse.
4. New gating/fencing at the entrances; wrought iron and some brick. New Ticket booths.
5. Bricks under the scoreboard/videoboard.
6. Sign that signifies our 24 district titles, playoff runs, semis, state runner-ups, and championship.
7. Something more permanent for the booster club booth
8. Make the East wall a RED brick wall.... instead of maroon.
9. New asphalt were needed.
Now....if I was REALLY thinking big..... I'd include these:
10. Parking lot behind the scoreboard.
11. Enclose the areas under the stadium on the home and away sides and put the ticket offices and entryways into the stadium behind each side instead of on the east side.
12. Visiting locker rooms at the stadium.
13. Expand the home side and bring the band and dance team back home. Love the idea of a PACKED homeside of red and white.

The stadium chairs would be great, but new bleachers are a must. The concrete needs some repairs and a power-washing. Don't even get me started on the concessions area.

Our field is great and the scoreboard is awesome. But our stands and bleachers are the worst in the district with the exception of Nacogdoches. We really need to get the stadium and seats upgraded. I like the idea of stadium chairs, but I'd settle for some bleachers that don't tear your jeans when you sit on them or not have a back ache for a week after a game. I don't think finishing the stadium is a priority right now. They are concentrating on the high school seems like.

If the school district was really interested in investing in the stadium, given its location, it could be a premier playoff venue for early round playoff games for classes 2A, 3A, and 4A. But they need to finish what they started. Some real entrances on the home and visitors sides with wrought iron fenses and some big wrought iron gates. New concessions area. Replacing the asphalt. Get rid of the chain link fences, or at least replace them. Renovate the concession stands. Replace the bleachers and asphalt under the stands. Finish the score board...it looks like we ran out of money. The new turf, lights, pressbox are all great. But we need to finish it. Looks like we half-assed it. Hopefully they will get it finished. But I've heard our new super hates spending money on sports. We should have finished it before Gibson left. We may not get anymore athletic facility upgrades for another 20 years.

I haven't heard anything definite concerning the stadium.... only rumbles and rumors. But I don't think MISD is finished with the stadium. They are just doing it in peices a little at a time. It'll be good when it's all done. School board has done an outstanding job getting the facilites done..... no reason to think they wouldn't finish what they started IMHO.

I remember Mavchamp posting something about doing concessions behind the scoreboard like they have in Whitehouse and Jacksonville. It would be expensive, but it would be a great addition. Our concessions are in terrible shape. Grand entrances on the home and visitors side would be awesome too. Other than that, I think things are really looking good.

Another thing:
The new stadium lights are amazing on the field. But they need to add a few to point down into the stands. It's really dark in the stands.

I don't think MISD is done with Maverick Stadium. Just have several things going. Really hoping they will try another bond to finish MHS renovations once and for all. It would be a fairly small bond. The opposition in the last one kept screaming REPAIR...NOT REPLACE. Well.... that's what they are doing with MHS. REPAIR. I'm sure they will invent a new mantra to oppose finishing MHS' renovation. They've really done a fantastic job the last 2-3 years at MHS. Lots of huge upgrades without a bond. Figers crossed. |
