MHS RENOVATIONSI'm fine with them raising our taxes by $4 a year to get some long overdue work done at MHS, but it's disappointing that they are ignoring the state of Maverick Stadium. Why not get it done now instead of waiting? It will cost more later and more work will need to be done. I guess we're going to wait until the stands and the bleachers are falling in like they did in Carthage and Pine Tree. Their stadiums got condemned before they finally acted.

Hard to get bonds passed in East Texas no matter how badly they are needed. Took us twice last time and those old elementary were falling in. MHS is still called the "new high school" by a lot of old folks. And it's 42 years old.

I’m no longer a taxpayer in Marshall, so my opinion is actually irrelevant.
I’m not sure they need a bond. I think they can get the money just by increasing the regular tax rate. I’m not 100% sure though.
I don’t think that the article had a comprehensive list. Maybe the stadium is on the list, it just wasn’t singled out.
Perhaps different finding is planned for the stadium…. I.e. district savings and/or private donations.
There’s a possibility nothing is planned. But until we know for sure, I would reserve judgment on the topic.

There's no way they can do 45 million dollars of work at the school and not touch the stadium at all. The concrete is crumbling, the bleachers are rusting, and it looks like moss is growing on it in some places. All the other improvements mean nothing if you let the actual stadium fall apart.

I didn't know it was 45 million. That's a lot of money.
Surely somewhere in that money there will be some money spent on the Stadium. The concrete and bleachers are in poor shape. Everything else is either new or recently renovated.
If we can get the concrete and bleachers fixed, Marshall would have the second best stadium in the district behind Pine Tree. No one else in the district would even be close. But until then, we are near the bottom with Nacogdoches and Whitehouse.

There are plans underway to address the stadium. From what I hear it won’t be part of the bond. It will be paid out of current district funds.

I've been trying to tell people that there is something in the works. Just be patient.
We've got to get this possible bond passed. MHS is in dire need of renovations. It's still in great shape...but the old gal needs some love and attention.

The stadium needs some work, we all know that.
But getting a bond passed for the school is the most important thing. It's not going to be easy with all the MAGAs in town.

Football team hogs all the money so we can't even host a swim team anymore. Shame on mhs.

They won't announce any work on the stadium until they see if a bond passes. If the bond passes, they will announce the improvements. If it fails we won't hear anything about it. Either way, nothing will happen to the stadium in time for 2023, it will be 2024 at best. Probably longer.

I think we all agree Maverick Stadium is in need of some additional work. But they have been chipping away at it for the last several years.
But there’s no question that the SCHOOL facility is the priority. Getting the bond passed to add another 20-30 years of life to the building is more important than stadium chairs Vs bleacher seats at the stadium.
Let’s get the school taken care of…. Then we can worry about the stadium.
