I don't think the series should end unless there are other non district east Texas teams that are consistently head and shoulders better than Marshall to replace us with. Longview is just way better than all other teams at the moment. Not a knock on Marshall.

Longview would get a better game from Carthage or Gilmer than they do sorry Marshal
Hell Hallsville or Pine Tree would be a better gaem
Marshall need to stick to playing Henderson and Tatum.

Not head and shoulders better. Just one small step in my eyes. Marshall just needs consistency in the coaching staff. Last time Marshall and Thigh were both in year 1 under their respective coaching staffs, Marshall won(2017). Had we played Thigh again in 2018, Marshall would have been favored. If this staff sticks around then I think we will go back and forth again. I think Marshall would need to fall far behind Thigh and Legacy for the series to be worth ending. Was 14-0 last year. When Longview is in between dominant seasons, they are beatable. Coach King probably doesn't have too many more seasons in him as well. Maybe they will experience what all other programs have had to endure and come back to earth a tad. Look what Longview and Carthage have been able to accomplish with long term grade A+ staffs.

If you will read my post again, you will see that I said “neither team SHOULD get blown out”
I didn’t say either team "Wouldn’t" or "Couldn’t" get blown out
I still think, just my opinion, that the consistent difference is coaching. I think a great Coach with a good team can beat a good coach with a great team.
Now before you go off on me let me explain what I mean:
Let me quote two of the Maverick’s championship coaches:
Dennis Parker said,” If we win, it is usually because the team executed my game plan well, and if we lose, it is usually because I used the wrong game plan.
Rodney Southern said, “the other team can’t win, if they can’t score, and they can’t score, if they don’t have the ball, You can't do that if you turn the ball over"
If you ask John King, I’ll bet he will agree with both statements. Its about coaching Philosophy and execution.
Last Friday John King was coaching his team. He did it flawlessly.
Jack Alvarez was coaching his predecessor’s team. Alvarez did a good job too considering he’s only been with the team for eight months.
It has been a long time since I have seen the Maverick Offence move the ball down the field against the Lobos with the ground game. They did that Friday with multiple running backs. It has been a long time since I’ve seen the Mavericks get close enough to the goal to even try for field goal against the Lobos. They did that Friday. It has been a long time since I’ve seen the Mavericks make a two-point conversion after a touchdown against the Lobos.
The Mavericks made some mistakes too. Some of the play was sloppy, but penalties didn’t cost them the game. Some of the play calls were difficult to execute. You won’t get away with making the same risky play call multiple times in one game against a John King coached team.
Now, if you end the series, the Mavericks will not have any problem finding another quality opponent for non-district games. There is always Lufkin, or the Louisiana teams, but it won’t have the same gravitas as playing the Lobos.
The Lobos, on the other hand will have to travel more than a hundred miles every other year to schedule a, so called "competitive opponent". The Lobos, already schedule every other quality team within 100 miles every year. What do you want to do scrimmage the Mavericks and play the Tigers. If you want to play the best teams every year, you should schedule Katy, Houston Northshore, Austin Westlake, Allen, South Lake Carroll, or Denton Guyer. I’m sure they will be “competitive with the Lobos” They might even come to Longview for a year or two but, I doubt that any of those teams will want to build a rivalry series with Longview because they have more quality opponents right in their home county than they can shake a stick at.
I say, lets keep the games going see what happens in a few more years.

I do think the game should be dropped. But I don't think Texarkana gives Longview a better game. Both will be blowouts more often than not
